I have been working on a soundtrack for my friend, Minneapolis based filmmaker John Akre, to go with a short film about his Great Aunt Charlotte, who worked in nursing from the 1920s-1965 and documented her life with a brownie camera. Recorded on Theremin, guitar and mando-tuned ukulele, Charlotte’s theme made the perfect backdrop for a spring snow as seen from inside our Bozeman, Montana home during the social isolation period of March, 2020.

Electromagnetism: seems like magic, but it’s science! My brand new single Electromagnetism is here, available for streaming on all platforms! The electromagnetic force is fascinating - along with gravity and the strong and weak nuclear forces, it's one of the most basic properties that governs everything around us. Sure, it explains electricity and magnets, not to mention the light spectrum, radio, x-rays and microwaves, but it's also the force that holds atoms and molecules together! Musically, I wanted to channel Kraftwerk if they were fronted by Bill Nye the Science Guy, along with plenty of theremin to celebrate the instrument's 100th birthday. That’s theremin in the intro, along with lots of crazy filters! In fact the song is pretty much a Where’s Waldo of spacey theremin sounds. The 80s synth sounds are Microkorg and various programming, and the song is expertly mixed and mastered by my pal Ed Renzi. Writing and recording this song helped me through some personal difficulties…

The theremin was invented in 1920 by the Russian Lev Termen (anglicized to Leon Theremim). This period people around the world celebrate 100 years of theremin playing. A group of enthusiasts from America collected theremin recordings - the result being a compilation of 72 tracks belonging to 50 theremin players from 18 countries. Among these recordings is my "Waves of the Danube". This video represents my little contribution to celebrate 100 years from the birthday of theremin. With this occasion I express my thanks to Dorit Chrysler (the founder of the NY Theremin Society) for her efforts to promote my theremin work. I also thank to my nephew, Victor Popescu, for his help in carrying out the video recordings. Orchestral arrangements belong to George Natsis. Instrument solo: Benedict Popescu on his homemade theremin.
