This is a different kind of Dr G song - a gentle lullaby inspired by biology and human beings. I’ve often sung it for my baby daughter, and it’s gotten her to fall asleep. I guess that’s a seal of approval as a lullaby? Anyway I hope you enjoy it - it’s about the biological and human marvel of watching a child grow, and a reassurance to children and adults alike that even in the hardest moments, it’s wonderful to be alive. Lyrics: when you are brand new your eyes are wide each day you're growing your cells divide metabolizing the energy you're made of matter and you matter to me i'll try to teach you what you need to know give you the care that you need to grow you're growing every day it's fascinating to see you're made of matter and you matter to me sometimes you may be sad or lonely some days you laugh and some days you cry but even in the hardest moments it's wonderful that you're alive and when the sun shines you run and play or in the nighttime after a busy day you are a …

Improvisations by Sergei Letov (electric saxophone), Vladimir Goloukhov (electric vibraphone) and Olesya Rostovskaya (theremin). "We were playing in this strange year when everything had become absolutely unclear, irrational and totally different. During the concert there were bonfires around the stage. People who on the one hand, longed to be part of a crowd, and on the other, wandered around trying to observe social distancing. One could sense a confrontation of opposite moods in the air. The musicians got hold of an audience, the audience got hold of live music, and nature itself helped: was it day, night, or dusk? Were we to listen and dance, ‘drink a cup of tea or hang ourselves’?" -…

“Listen to the Sound of the Sun” tells the mesmerizing tale of a race of beings who look to the sun as their god only to discover that it is they who are the real gods. It is aThis groovy psychedelic freak-out features the theremin playing of Stephen Hamm, with Shawn Mrazek (Nardwuar and the Evaporators, Doers, Notes from the Underground) on drums and Elliot Langford (SSRIs, Rebel Spell, Freak Dream) on guitar. Stephen Hamm has been a pivotal member of the Vancouver Music and Arts scene for over 25 years. He’s played in bands like Slow, Tankhog, Canned Hamm and Nardwuar And The Evaporators. The Georgia Straight once called him ‘legendary’. Stephen in recent years has shifted his focus to mastering the Theremin an early electronic instrument that one does not touch but plays by interacting with magnetic fields around two antennae. In recent years Stephen has studied under the tutelage of German Theremin virtuoso Carolina Eyck, Lydia Kavina and New York based Thereminist Dorit Chry…

Part 1 of the JubbTalks album/video series. In the second half I give an overview of how the project works, from Theremini, to MIDI, to Max/MSP, to VST and hardware. The Banter Experience weaves psychedelic ambient worlds from live looping improvisations. It is one of many solo projects by multi-instrumentalist Justin H Brierley. This project, which lasted from mid 2016 to Dec. 2020, centered on using a Theremin primarily as a MIDI controller to play a variety of synths and samplers, both VST and hardware. MIDI data from the Moog Theremini was interpreted, looped, and routed by a custom Max/MSP patch, created with significant help by Arvid Tomayko. The JubbTalks album/video series represents the end of this particular way of working. Each of the seven videos begins with a live performance, followed by a talk on what I’m doing and how and why. The performances seen in the videos* were recorded and are what can be heard on the album. (*one exception: Todt Duct on the album is not …
