Claude Debussy, "Beau Soir" Performed by Stranger Strings: Theremin & Harp Duo Charlie Draper - Theremin; Holly Lowe - Harp TEDxNaperville 2020 Conjuring sounds from thin air, Charlie Draper and Holly Lowe perform as STRANGER STRINGS, an electro-acoustic classical duo combining theremin and concert harp. Modern circuits and antique strings combine in dramatic counterpoints: as hands flutter in mid-air, the instruments' complementary tonal streams cascade and blur into one. The results are otherworldly yet serene. Formed in 2019, the duo has performed with the Radio Science Orchestra at TEDSummit, at Bluedot Festival, and London's Thames Tunnel. Now, in their début solo programme, they present a spectrum of music for these striking instruments, producing music to delight, mystify and astound in equal measure. With thanks to Charterhouse School Filmed 1 November 2020 for TEDxNaperville

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the theremin’s invention. To celebrate the instrument that sparked a century of electronic music innovation, we present to you a new limited-edition Moog theremin: Claravox Centennial. Set among the baroque architecture and expansive gardens of Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, French musician Grégoire Blanc channels theremin marvel Clara Rockmore in a stunning Claravox Centennial performance of Claude Debussy’s “Clair de Lune” alongside pianist Orane Donnadieu. This tribute to the timeless classical duets of Rockmore and her sister, pianist Nadia Reisenberg, captures the beauty of the theremin’s distinct tone and personality—characteristics that will continue to captivate audiences into the next century.
