Many of you may know this piece as "Ombra mai fù".
This is arioso at the beginning of the first act of the opera "Serse" composed by Handel.
The libretto praises the shade of the plane trees.
King Serse (Xerxes I) of Persia sings that there has never been a shade of trees so lovely, gentle and comfortable like this.
And, in fact, this song is also known as "the world's first music broadcasted on radio waves."
Performed on vinyl on December 24, 1906, on the first experimental radio broadcast by Reginald Aubrey Fessenden.
In this recording, only main melody is performed by RCA Theremin, and the accompaniment parts are by Etherwave Pro.
